Brief:
GoTAK EUDs can be setup to dualboot into a secondary OS commonly referred to as ROMs in the Android world, this allows for a completely open source system to run on the device without having to rely on proprietary apps or software to run on your EUD while opening it up to more customization. More importantly, the secondary degoogled ROM runs entirely separate from the stock ROM, adding another layer of security and obfuscation. We plan on making this the default ROM in the future after we complete more roadmap objectives and do more real word testing
Setup:
- Download the following ROM to your EUD directly - HERE
- Open the app DSU Sideloader on your EUD (preinstalled) - Grant root permissions
- Tap the button Setup
- Tap "CREATE NEW FOLDER" and enter the name Dualboot (this is where the OS image will live)
- Tap "USE THIS FOLDER" and tap Allow on the following screen hit "Proceed"
- Tap the settings icon on the top right and check off the option "Keep screen on" then hit back
- Tap inside the box that says "Select the file to install" and navigate to the file we downloaded
- Check off Userdata size and enter the amount of free space you want on your second OS for files
- Hit the blue install button and wait patiently as your secondary OS installs
- You can switch to the secondary anytime by using the DSU sideloader app or use the notification
- If DSU Sideloader gives you an issue where it says "Preparation done, a command is required to proceed with installation" go into the magisk app, go to superuser on bottom and toggle DSU Sideloader.
Operation:
To enter the secondary OS simply open the DSU sideloader app and hit restart - there will also be a new notification upon reboot that will allow you to easily switch.
It is possible to set the secondary OS as the only bootable OS - this is currently unsupported
To exit out of the secondary OS simply reboot the device and it will return to the stock ROM.
Roadmap:
- We plan on implementing a better version of DSU loader that will allow multiple ROMs to be loaded.
- We plan on implementing OTA updates to the lineage build - this is currently unsupported
- We plan on offering a direct boot into lineageOS removing the need for the stock ROM entirely
- We plan on building in the GoTAK App suite for rapid deployment without having to manually redownload all of the apps on the stock ROM
Notes:
This is still an experimental feature, we are working on porting over all of the proprietary implementations from the stock ROM such as the PTT Intercom app, FLIR and Infrared Cameras as well as native support for the customizable hardware hotkey button without external apps.
There is a lot of room for improvement, that being said we have tested the dualboot feature on a daily carry phone and have not had any issues. Get used to zero google apps!
Supported Devices:
GoTAK RAVEN
GoTAK FALCON
GoTAK EUD Pro
GoTAK EUD V2
GOTAK DMR
*The SPARROW is not supported as it is already running GrapheneOS
